A Journey of Growth and Achievement: Overcoming Challenges
in Somalia
On the auspicious day of September 21st, 2023, I proudly celebrated my graduation from Zamzam University's Baidoa Branch. Born and raised in Baidoa, my name is Abdinasir Hassan, and I was once the village boy who made the life-changing decision to pursue higher education in the very city I call home. This decision has proven to be one of the best I have ever made. While many of my secondary school classmates ventured to Mogadishu in search of reputed universities, my experience has solidified my belief that Baidoa offers education of equal, if not superior, quality.
However, my university journey was far from smooth sailing, as it unfolded against a backdrop of challenges that are all too common in Somalia. I hailed from a modest-income family, and my father's passing while I was in class eight placed added burdens on my beloved mother, a beacon of strength for our family. Unemployment, recurring financial constraints, and the ever-present specter of political instability and violence in the country made my path even more treacherous.
From the outset, I encountered obstacles that tested my determination and resilience. The demanding coursework often left me feeling overwhelmed, questioning my capabilities. Countless sleepless nights were spent studying, all while I juggled part-time jobs to support my family and myself financially. However, amidst these challenges, there were also moments of great joy and personal growth. The friendships forged during late-night study sessions became my pillars of support through thick and thin. Professors who encouraged critical thinking and broadened my horizons contributed significantly to my personal development. Every achievement, no matter how minor, reminded me that hard work does indeed pay off.
My time at the university has been a transformative experience, shaping me into the person I am today. It has taught me resilience, persistence, and the art of never giving up on my dreams. As I celebrate my graduation, I am profoundly grateful to all those who supported me along this arduous journey. Lastly, I extend my best wishes to my fellow graduates and express my heartfelt gratitude to the university staff who have played a pivotal role in my personal growth.
To those embarking on their own
university journeys or facing their unique trials and tribulations, remember
that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. Embrace the journey, learn
from your mistakes, and celebrate your victories, no matter how small. It is in
overcoming adversity that we truly discover our potential and achieve
greatness.
My Mentoring Friends (Yasir and Shuaib)
When we first crossed paths, I was a part-time job seeker, and without hesitation, you provided me with unwavering support. Today, as I stand on the threshold of a new chapter in my life, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the invaluable role you've played in my academic journey. Your friendship and encouragement have been instrumental in shaping my success, and I cannot thank you enough.
You didn't just push me hard; you were there on my graduation day when many couldn't make it. Your congratulatory messages and encouraging words will serve as motivation as I pursue my master's education. Your belief in my abilities has propelled me toward excellence, never allowing me to settle for mediocrity. Your constant reminders of my strengths and capabilities have given me the confidence to overcome obstacles and pursue my dreams fearlessly. Your unwavering faith in me has been a driving force behind my accomplishments.
I am truly grateful for the sacrifices you've made to ensure that I had every opportunity to excel academically and gave me the opportunity to practice my leadership becoming the youngest Manager of your company Maamuus Events in Baidoa branch. The very company I joined as an usher for my side hustle income to support both my study and my family. Your willingness to go above and beyond by offering your time, resources, and expertise has made all the difference in my educational journey. Your selflessness is truly commendable.
As I reflect on this chapter of my life coming to a close, please know that your impact on my education will forever be cherished. The memories we've created together during these years will always hold a special place in my heart, thank you for being incredible friends who supported me unconditionally throughout this educational endeavor.Without your presence in my life, I
would not be standing here today as a proud graduate.
Let me not forget to extend my sincere
gratitude to Mr. Abdullahi Watiin, my senior and the current DC and Mayor of
Baidoa, who not only recognized my hidden potential but also offered unwavering
support during my studies. Thank you, Sir.
